Basketball Recap: Fort Calhoun Starts Season with Loss on the Road

Fort Calhoun kicked off their season on the road on Thursday and hit a couple of potholes. They lost 62-39 to the Archbishop Bergan Knights. The Pioneers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Knights apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

Several Pioneers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Dylan Keyser, who posted seven points and six rebounds. The dominant performance gave Keyser a new career-high in boards. Adam Elofson was another key player, putting up ten points.

Gavin Baker was nothing short of spectacular for Archbishop Bergan: he had 22 points and eight rebounds. Another player making a difference was Trey Mooney, who put up 11 points and five rebounds.

Fort Calhoun didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 54-43 defeat against Syracuse on the 7th. As for Archbishop Bergan, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 50-43 loss against Bancroft-Rosalie on the 7th.
