Basketball Recap: Phoenix Christian Comes Up Short

Phoenix Christian's tournament run continued when they took on Victory Christian Academy on Monday. The Phoenix Christian Cougars were dealt a 90-44 loss at the hands of the Victory Christian Academy Knights. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Cougars came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 139th in Arizona, while the Knights are ranked 348th in California).

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Victory Christian Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Angel Ochoa, who went 13 for 18 on his way to 30 points and seven assists. Ochoa is crushing it when it comes to points: he's scored at least 15 every time he's taken the court this season. Isaiah Owens was another key player, going 9 of 11 on his way to 20 points.

Phoenix Christian has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season. As for Victory Christian Academy, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-7.

Phoenix Christian is headed away from home for the first time to face off against San Tan Charter at 6:30 p.m. on January 7th. Phoenix Christian is facing San Tan Charter at the right time seeing as San Tan Charter is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Victory Christian Academy, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, an 84-40 victory against North Valley Christian Academy on the 2nd.
