Baseball Recap: McClave Takes a Loss

McClave fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Otis on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They lost 19-8 to the Bulldogs. The Cardinals just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.

Kielan Mallard put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 5-for-5 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Ryan Steinbrunn was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. He has become a key player for McClave: the team is 5-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-4 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Lawton Annen, who went 4-for-5 with one double and one RBI.

McClave's loss dropped their record down to 8-5. As for Otis, their record now sits at 11-3.

McClave didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 7-2 win against Stratton on the 19th. As for Otis, they have also already played their next contest, a 19-1 victory against Wiley on the 17th.
