Corner Canyon picks up fifth straight win at home

Recap: Corner Canyon Chargers vs. Copper Hills Grizzlies

On Thursday, the Corner Canyon Chargers faced the Copper Hills Grizzlies in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Corner Canyon secured a 52-48 W over Copper Hills. For Corner Canyon, this counts as revenge for the 46-42 loss Copper Hills walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2022.

Corner Canyon had a senior duo take command as Maia Rhay scored 18 points along with five rebounds and Elina Mortensen scored 16 points along with eight rebounds. Mortensen is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last 12 games she's played. Kenzie Randall was another key contributor, scoring five points.

Copper Hills' loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Skylie Barker, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 16 rebounds, and Ellie Taylor who scored 20 points.

Corner Canyon pushed their record up to 11-5 with that win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.6 points per game. As for Copper Hills, their loss ended a 11-game streak of away wins and brought them to 15-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Corner Canyon will take on Mountain Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Utah (Mountain Ridge is ranked 16th, while Corner Canyon is ranked 19th). As for Copper Hills, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Riverton at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Riverton is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.
