Football Recap: Kyler Drunasky's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Desert Vista over Valley Vista + How To Watch

Desert Vista had lost six straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 1-2 to make it seven. They took a 36-28 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Valley Vista Monsoon. The Thunder were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Monsoon apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in September of 2024.

Desert Vista's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kyler Drunasky, who rushed for 133 yards and one score while picking up 7.8 yards per carry. Drunasky is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 107 every time he's taken the field this season. Kael Moore was in the mix too, providing Desert Vista with two TDs.

Valley Vista's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for their offense, which had struggled in the games prior.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Valley Vista to victory, but perhaps none more so than Damir Ilicic, who threw for 373 yards and three touchdowns, and also rushed for 51 yards on only six carries. Those 51 rushing yards gave Ilicic a new career-high. Valley Vista's leading receiver Joseph Watts-Diver was Ilicic's top target yet again, picking up 209 receiving yards and three scores.

Looking ahead, Desert Vista is taking a road trip to challenge Mountain Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Valley Vista, they will host Shadow Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
