Portola came tearing into Monday's contest with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.6 points), and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single point of losing the streak, but they secured a 15-14 W against the Sage Hill Lightning. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Bulldogs' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 42nd, while the Lightning are ranked 259th).

Portola's victory bumped their record up to 10-2. As for Sage Hill, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-4 record this season.

Coincidentally, Portola and Sage Hill will both be playing Northwood the next time they take the field. The Bulldogs will host the Timberwolves at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday, while the Lightning will host them at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
