Softball Game Preview: Parkersburg Big Reds vs. Parkersburg South Patriots

Parkersburg is 2-8 against Parkersburg South since May of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Big Reds will welcome the Patriots at 5:00 p.m.

Parkersburg is headed into Monday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Saturday. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 9-1 to Spring Valley, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.

Meanwhile, Parkersburg South waltzed into their matchup on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They were the clear victors by a 9-1 margin over the Big Reds. The result was nothing new for the Patriots, who have now won seven contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Kylie Connley spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Payton Mackey and Brooklin Whitehead did most of the damage at the plate: Mackey scored a run while going 2-for-2, while Whitehead scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Those two hits gave Mackey a new career-high. Alison Marcum was another key player, scoring two runs.

Parkersburg South pushed their record up to 10-5 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Parkersburg, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-5.
