Football Game Preview: Brewer Bears vs. Birdville Hawks + Official Tickets

The Brewer Bears will venture away from home to square off against the Birdville Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Last Friday, Brewer got the win against Denton by a conclusive 38-17. Given the Bears' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 224th, while the Broncos are ranked 458th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Kameron Coleman was nothing short of spectacular: he rushed for 251 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 10.5 yards per carry. That's the most rushing yards he has posted since back in September of 2024. Devan Roberts did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 117 receiving yards.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Birdville). They strolled past Denton with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 49-31. The Hawks pushed the score to 49-17 by the end of the third, a deficit the Broncos cut but never quite recovered from.

Birdville's win came from a few key players Brewer will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Zach Wells, who threw for 303 yards and two touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes, and also rushed for 35 yards and one score. His passing game has become a key predictor of Birdville's success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 110 or higher, but only 1-3 otherwise. Another back making a difference was Anthony White, who rushed for 92 yards and three TDs on only eight carries.

The victory made it two in a row for Brewer and bumps their season record up to 4-2. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.5 points over those games. As for Birdville, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

Everything came up roses for Brewer against Birdville when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 53-21 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bears since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
