Softball Recap: Santa Fe Demons vs. La Cueva Bears
Santa Fe had lost three straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 10-14 to make it four. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 15-0 to the La Cueva Bears, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bears this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-0 on Saturday.
As for La Cueva, the victory was the 15th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 19-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.6 runs over those games.
For La Cueva's part, Liliana Montoya made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Montoya has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Brooklyn Eardley was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. MaceRae Santistevan was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Santa Fe wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, an 8-7 victory against Eldorado on the 3rd. As for La Cueva, they have also already played their next contest, a 16-1 win against Capital on the 28th.
