Softball Recap: Lexington Victorious

Lexington took a eight-run loss the last time they faced off against Henry County, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Lexington Tigers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-6 win over the Henry County Patriots on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Tigers have posted against the Patriots since April 15, 2017.

Lauren Johnson tossed a big game, tossing 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Carly Williams, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in hits. Another player making a difference was Belle Powers, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Lexington always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The win made it two in a row for Lexington and bumps their season record up to 8-3. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Henry County, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-2.

Looking ahead, Lexington will head out to challenge University School of Jackson at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Henry County, they will be taking part in a tournament against McNairy Central at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Henry County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
