Basketball Recap: Lamar Consolidated Comes Up Short

Lamar Consolidated fought the good fight in their overtime game against Victoria East on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Victoria East Titans 56-50. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mustangs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 61-54 back in January.

Despite the defeat, Lamar Consolidated saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Edgar Garcia went 8 of 11 en route to 21 points and five rebounds. Renniek James was another key player, putting up 15 points and six boards.

Lamar Consolidated has been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 12 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-17 record this season. As for Victoria East, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 19-14 record this season.

Lamar Consolidated didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 54-46 loss against Victoria West on the 4th. Victoria East has also already played their next contest, a 65-33 defeat against Fort Bend Kempner on the 4th.
