Football Recap: Dover Takes a Loss

Dover had lost four straight at home, but on Friday they dropped down to 0-8 to make it five. They were outmatched by the Mena Bearcats and fell 42-7. That's two games in a row now that the Pirates have lost by exactly 35 points.

As for Mena, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-2. Considering they have won five contests by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Mena can attribute much of their success to Chance Hughes, who rushed for 69 yards and one score on only five carries. Those 69 rushing yards gave Hughes a new career-high.

Looking ahead, Dover will take on Waldron at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Pirates will be up against the Bulldogs' rather soft defense (which has allowed 45.25 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Mena, they will welcome Clinton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Bearcats 12.4, the Yellowjackets 13.4) so any points scored will be well earned.
