Recap: Mt. Vernon Rams vs. Cahokia Comanches
In what's become a running theme this season, the Mt. Vernon Rams gave their fans yet another huge victory on Tuesday. They claimed a resounding 97-31 victory over Cahokia at home. That 66 points margin sets a new team best for Mt. Vernon this season.
Mt. Vernon was led to victory by Tiara Johnson and Arwyn Wilkie. Johnson scored 20 points along with three steals, while Wilkie scored 20 points along with five rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Wilkie has scored all season. Melaina Zedalis was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with two steals.
Mt. Vernon's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 21-4. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 76.2 points per game. As for Cahokia, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-11.
Mt. Vernon will be playing at home against Althoff Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Althoff Catholic will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings (they are ranked 197th, while Mt. Vernon is ranked 50th). Cahokia will be staying on the road on Wednesday to face off against Belleville West at 6:00 p.m. on January 31st.
