Softball Game Preview: Felicity-Franklin Cardinals vs. New Miami Vikings

The Felicity-Franklin Cardinals will head out on the road to square off against the New Miami Vikings at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Felicity-Franklin will be strutting in after a victory while New Miami will be coming in after a defeat.

Felicity-Franklin is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Middletown Christian with a sharp 24-3 win on Thursday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Cardinals needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.

Brook Caudill was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off only one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Mollie Wilson was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Scarlatella, who went 3-for-4 with five runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI.

Felicity-Franklin always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .696. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for New Miami's offense. They lost 12-0 to National Trail on Friday. The game marked the first time this season in which the Vikings were not able to get on the board.

New Miami dropped their record down to 2-8 with the loss, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. As for Felicity-Franklin, their record is now 2-12.

Felicity-Franklin took their victory against New Miami in their previous matchup back in May of 2018 by a conclusive 19-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cardinals since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
