Football Recap: Bledsoe County Falls Short Against Ranked Van Buren County

Bledsoe County faced Van Buren County in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Warriors took a 33-18 bruising from the Eagles. The Warriors gained 136 more yards on the day, but it was the Eagles that made the best use of them.

Despite the loss, Bledsoe County still got an impressive performance from Lilianne Sherrell, who rushed for 198 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries, and also threw for 94 yards and one TD. The Warriors are 5-2 when Sherrell posts 100 or more rushing yards, but 0-4 otherwise.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Van Buren County to victory, but perhaps none more so than Shaylynn Ross, who threw for 116 yards and three TDs, and also punched in one score on the ground. The dominant performance also gave Ross a new career-high in passer rating (129.2). Ellie Grissom was in the mix too, providing Van Buren County with two touchdowns.

Bledsoe County now has a losing record of 5-6. As for Van Buren County, they now have a winning record of 5-4.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Eagles beat Bledsoe County by a score of 7-6 later that day.
