Volleyball Recap: Fossil Ridge's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Thursday

If Fossil Ridge was feeling good fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Denver South two weeks ago, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Fossil Ridge came up short against the Niwot Cougars on Thursday, falling 3-0. The SaberCats' defeat signaled the end of their six-game winning streak.

While Fossil Ridge was kept off the board, it wasn't for a lack of trying: they cut into Niwot's winning margin in every set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-12, 25-16, 25-20.

Tannor Christians paced Fossil Ridge's offense, picking up six kills. Christians got some help from Jason Mynatt and his nine assists.

Niwot was led to victory by Charlie Kirtland and Jasper Helgans. Kirtland had ten digs and one assist, while Helgans had five digs and three aces.

Fossil Ridge's loss dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Niwot, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Looking ahead, Fossil Ridge is taking a road trip to square off against Poudre at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. This will be Fossil Ridge's first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for Niwot, they will take on Littleton Public Schools in a tournament on Saturday. Littleton Public Schools will roll in looking for their 11th straight win, something Niwot surely won't give up without a fight.
