Softball Game Preview: Zion-Benton Zee-Bees vs. Stevenson Patriots

Zion-Benton hasn't had much luck against Stevenson recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Zee-Bees will welcome the Patriots at 4:45 p.m.

On Wednesday, Zion-Benton came up short against Libertyville and fell 4-1. The Zee-Bees have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Stevenson came tearing into Saturday's game with 16 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Huskies by a score of 7-3.

Ava Potempa spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on five hits and racked up 14 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Sophia Becker was excellent, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last ten matchups. Another player making a difference was Maahi Patel, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.

Stevenson pushed their record up to 24-3 with the win, which was their eighth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Zion-Benton, their loss dropped their record down to 7-12-1.
