Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask York). They never let the Proviso West Panthers get on the board and left with an 18-0 victory on Monday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
Myka Matykiewicz was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over four innings pitched. Matykiewicz was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, York got a massive performance out of Alexandra (Alex) ElEtr-Garofalo, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Those three runs gave ElEtr-Garofalo a new career-high. Morgen Balfanz was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.
York always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .719. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
York's victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 11-6. As for Proviso West, they are on a 15-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.
