Baseball Recap: Ursuline Triumphs

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Ursuline had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over the Villa Angela-St. Joseph Vikings. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Fighting Irish.

Anthony Triveri was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. Ursuline is undefeated when Triveri posts two or more runs, but 8-11 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on AJ Snyder, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April.

Ursuline hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive contests.

Ursuline's record now sits at 16-11. As for Villa Angela-St. Joseph, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-12.

As of now, neither Ursuline nor the Vikings have any future games scheduled.
