Basketball Game Preview: Chaparral Wolverines vs. Mountain Vista Golden Eagles

The Chaparral Wolverines will head out on the road to square off against the Mountain Vista Golden Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Chaparral is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Tuesday as they easily beat Ponderosa 66-26. The Wolverines haven't had any issues with the Mustangs recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.

Chaparral's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Lauren Thompson, who posted six points along with 12 assists and six steals, and Maddie Jenkins, who went 6-for-13 en route to 19 points and four steals. Chaparral is 6-1 when Thompson posts five or more steals, but 7-8 otherwise. Salem Sherman was another key player, going 5-for-8 on her way to 13 points.

Meanwhile, Mountain Vista was able to grind out a solid victory over Rangeview on Wednesday, taking the game 46-35. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Golden Eagles.

Chaparral's win bumped their record up to 13-9. As for Mountain Vista, their victory bumped their record up to 14-8.

Chaparral beat Mountain Vista 62-50 in their previous matchup back in January of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Chaparral since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
