Basketball Recap: Academy at the Lakes Drops Highest Score of Season Against Universal Academy + How To Watch

Academy at the Lakes won the last time they faced Universal Academy and things went their way on Thursday too. The Wildcats strolled past the Falcons with points to spare, taking the game 66-52. The Wildcats' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Academy at the Lakes to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tim Astapenka, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and 13 boards. The dominant performance also gave Astapenka a new career-high in assists (seven). Gavyn Widman was another key player, going 7-for-16 to rack up 16 points in addition to five rebounds and five steals.

Academy at the Lakes was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Despite the loss, Universal Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Brendan Brown posted 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ahmad Abuzayda, who earned seven points.

Academy at the Lakes is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 3-3 record this season. As for Universal Academy, with the defeat, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 4-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Academy at the Lakes will square off against Hernando Christian Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Universal Academy, they will challenge American Youth Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
