Softball Game Preview: Smithville Smithies vs. Norwayne Bobcats

For the second straight game, Smithville will face off against Norwayne. The Smithies are taking a road trip to take on the Bobcats at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Smithville's hitters haven't had much luck over their past four contests, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Smithville fell victim to Norwayne and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 10-0 to the Bobcats, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.

For Norwayne's part, Abby Workman made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. Workman has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

In other batting news, Makenna Heyden and Kylie Heyden did most of the damage at the plate: Makenna went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one triple, while Kylie went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That home run was Kylie's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Landyn Berry, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Smithville's defeat dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Norwayne, their record now sits at 10-2.
