Spanish River extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping their season record down to 8-7 in the process. They took an 8-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders. The Sharks were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Raiders earlier this season, when they won 7-6.

Giselle Portanova was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up just one earned (and seven unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Abygail Gonzalez made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.
As for St. Thomas Aquinas, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-10 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.8 runs over those games.
On St. Thomas Aquinas' side, Lavinia Miller spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up nine Ks.
On the hitting side, Summer Givens was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Melanie Sweet, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Spanish River didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 15-0 win against West Boca Raton on the 16th. As for St. Thomas Aquinas, they have also already played their next contest, a 10-0 defeat against Palm Beach Gardens on the 16th.
