Flag Football Game Preview: Chaparral Wolverines vs. Douglas County Huskies

The Chaparral Wolverines will challenge the Douglas County Huskies at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (Chaparral 9.2, Douglas County 12) so any points scored will be well earned.

Chaparral is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Colorado's top teams: Northfield, who was ranked ninth at the time (Chaparral was ranked fifth). The Wolverines pulled ahead with a 13-12 photo finish over the Nighthawks on Tuesday. The score was all tied up 6-6 at the break, but the Wolverines were the better team in the second half.

A big part of Chaparral's win came down to the chemistry between Zoey Fink and her top target Salem Sherman. Fink threw for 194 yards and one touchdown while completing 77.3% of her passes while Sherman picked up 74 receiving yards and one TD.

Meanwhile, Douglas County was fully in charge on Tuesday, breezing past Regis Jesuit 40-6. The Huskies might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by 31 points or more this season.

One reason for the win was Douglas County's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. In that department, Hayley Rice was the leader with two. She has been hot, having posted at least one sack the last five times she's played. Mariia Dykalenko got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Chaparral is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 7.0 points on average over those games. As for Douglas County, their win bumped their record up to 10-3.

Chaparral beat Douglas County 27-18 when the teams last played back in October of 2024. Do the Wolverines have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Huskies turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
