Softball Recap: Gates County Wins Going Away Against Northampton County

It's playoff time, and Gates County had no trouble coming through when it counted. They put the hurt on the Northampton County Jaguars with a sharp 17-2 victory on Tuesday. The Red Barons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 contests by eight runs or more this season.

Kamryn Riddick and Taylor Westbrook did most of the damage at the plate: Riddick went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Westbrook went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Riddick has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Vicktoria Pierce, who earned one RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Gates County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .474. They are 7-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Gates County's win bumped their record up to 12-10. As for Northampton County, they moved to 9-7 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Coming up, Gates County will challenge Perquimans on Friday. The Pirates will roll in looking for their tenth straight victory, something the Red Barons surely won't give up without a fight. Northampton County does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
