Basketball Game Preview: Mesa Vista Trojans vs. Hobbs Eagles

The Mesa Vista Trojans will be taking part in a tournament against the Hobbs Eagles at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Mesa Vista is coming home in high spirits after they had to open their season on the road against Pecos. The Trojans narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Panthers 53-51. The victory continues a trend for the Trojans in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won three in a row.

Meanwhile, it was a Battle of the Birds when Hobbs took on Centennial on Tuesday. The Eagles sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 60-57 win over the Hawks. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Eagles have posted since February 7th.

Hobbs' win came from a few key players Mesa Vista will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Lyric Soria, who posted 17 points. The game was his third in a row with at least 16 points. Another player making a difference was Braddock Beaty, who shot 55% from the field to rack up 17 points.
