Softball Recap: Lynchburg-Clay Makes It Four in a Row at Home

Lynchburg-Clay is still undefeated this season after their matchup against South Webster on Saturday, but South Webster came as close as anyone has to beating them. The Mustangs came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against the Jeeps. Those four runs were actually the fewest the Mustangs have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.

Noel Barnhill made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out 11 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Barnhill wasn't the only one making solid contact as eight players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Sophia. Michael, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Another was Caitlyn Collins, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

Lynchburg-Clay pushed their record up to 5-0 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for South Webster, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1.

Lynchburg-Clay has already played their next game, a 4-2 defeat against Miami Trace on the 29th. As for South Webster, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 7-1 victory against Clay on the 1st.
