Softball Recap: Four Straight Road Wins for Loudoun County

While Loudoun County's win against Freedom wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Captains narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Eagles 4-3. The Captains haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Keira Bertoglio was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

In other pitching news, Loudoun County got a great performance from Madison Karschner as she pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits.

Back at the plate, Carissa Keefer was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Laynie Nichols also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Loudoun County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Freedom only managed four hits.

Loudoun County's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-4. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Freedom, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-9.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Loudoun County will square off against John Champe at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Knights have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.75 runs per game on average), something the Captains will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Freedom, they will face off against Gainesville at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cardinals have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season.
