Covington never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Craigmont Chiefs with a sharp 20-0 win. Considering the Chargers have won seven contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Bella Crook was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Crook was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. That stolen base marked the first that she has snagged this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Micayla Scott, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two triples, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooke Waldon, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Covington always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of 1.000. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
The victory got Covington back to even at 10-10-1. As for Craigmont, they are on a 19-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-10.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Covington will head out to challenge Ripley at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Craigmont, they will venture away from home to square off against Munford at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
