Basketball Recap: Monroe Comes Up Short

Monroe lost against Arleta back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Monroe Vikings were beaten by the Arleta Mustangs 74-38. While losing is never fun, the Vikings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1283rd, while the Mustangs are ranked 522nd).

Several Vikings players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jevonte Brown, who posted 11 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeremiah O'Garro, who scored eight points in addition to eight boards and three blocks.

Monroe has been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-12 record this season. As for Arleta, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-6.

Monroe will face off against Poly at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Poly knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven matchups -- so hopefully Monroe likes a good challenge. As for Arleta, they will head out on the road to square off against Verdugo Hills at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Verdugo Hills is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.3 points per game this season.
