Softball Game Preview: Jefferson Area Falcons vs. Pymatuning Valley Lakers

The Jefferson Area Falcons will face off against the Pymatuning Valley Lakers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Pymatuning Valley will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Jefferson Area extended their winning streak to three on Thursday. The Falcons' pitcher stepped up to hand Struthers a 16-0 shutout. The Falcons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by eight runs or more this season.

Olivia Lewis was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Alaina Barress was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Marillia Matuz, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one RBI.

Jefferson Area was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .643. They are 10-3 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Pymatuning Valley, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They walked away with an 11-6 victory over Mineral Ridge on Friday.

Jefferson Area's win bumped their record up to 13-11. As for Pymatuning Valley, their victory bumped their record up to 14-7.

Jefferson Area couldn't quite get it done against Pymatuning Valley in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 as they fell 6-3. Can the Falcons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
