Basketball Game Preview: Lely Trojans vs. Golden Gate Titans

The Lely Trojans will face off against the Golden Gate Titans at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Lely knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three games -- so hopefully Golden Gate likes a good challenge.

Lely is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They put the hurt on Palmetto Ridge with a sharp 78-55 victory on Monday. The win was all the more spectacular given the Trojans' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 414th, while the Bears are ranked 45th).

Meanwhile, Golden Gate ended up a good deal behind Immokalee on Monday and lost 62-48.

Lely will have to contain Sam Powell as he made an impact in Golden Gate's last game. He dropped a double-double on 34 points and 11 rebounds. Those 34 points gave Powell a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kenson St.Fort, who posted six points in addition to five assists and five boards.

Golden Gate has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-4 record this season. As for Lely, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 3-4.

Lely was able to grind out a solid win over Golden Gate in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, winning 55-46. Will Lely repeat their success, or does Golden Gate have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
