Basketball Recap: Norfolk Collegiate Sets Scoring Season-High Against Oaktree Academy

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Norfolk Collegiate). They blew past the Oaktree Academy Grizzlies, posting an 89-33 victory. Given the Mighty Oaks' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 108th, while the Grizzlies are ranked 422nd), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Norfolk Collegiate got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Justin Burrough out in front who went 8 of 9 en route to 18 points and three steals. Burrough has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Baxter, who went 6 for 7 on his way to 16 points.

Norfolk Collegiate smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Norfolk Collegiate pushed their record up to 11-5 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 38 points. As for Oaktree Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season.

Norfolk Collegiate wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, an 83-73 win against Kecoughtan on the 1st. Oaktree Academy has also already played their next game, a 59-54 defeat against Summit Christian Academy on the 1st.
