Softball Game Preview: Central Christian Comets vs. Smithville Smithies

Central Christian is 0-3 against Smithville since April of 2019 but things could change on Saturday. The Comets will host the Smithies at 1:00 p.m. Smithville took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Central Christian, who comes in off a win.

Central Christian is looking to give their home crowd another W after opening their season at home on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Aquinas with a sharp 9-3 win.

Micah Kozel Steiner was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. Kozel Steiner was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Edisa Plants was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Adeline Aubrey was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

Central Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Aquinas only posted a batting average of .200.

Meanwhile, Smithville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against Dalton, falling 12-6.

Caitlin Walsh-Knouff made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs while going 3-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Morgan Shutt, who scored two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Central Christian might still be hurting after the 10-3 loss they got from Smithville when the teams last played back in May of 2022. Can the Comets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
