Basketball Game Preview: Sand Point Eagles/Lady Eagles vs. King Cove T-Jacks and Rookies

Sand Point hasn't had much luck against King Cove recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Sand Point Eagles/Lady Eagles are taking a road trip to face off against the King Cove T-Jacks and Rookies.

Last Friday, Sand Point came up short against Manokotak and fell 46-37. While losing is never fun, the Eagles/Lady Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alaska basketball rankings (they are ranked 34th, while the Lynx are ranked fourth).

Meanwhile, you can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely King Cove's strategy against Bristol Bay last Monday. King Cove took down Bristol Bay 44-25.

Sand Point better keep an eye on Michael Chase Gould. He was instrumental in King Cove's win, putting up 19 points. Gould's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Logan Iyapana, who posted eight points.

King Cove has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 5-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.3 points per game. As for Sand Point, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3.

Things could have been worse for Sand Point, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 42-23 loss to King Cove in their previous matchup back in January. Can Sand Point avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
