Basketball Recap: Vestaburg Wolverines vs. Breckenridge Huskies
Vestaburg was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They took a 44-36 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Breckenridge Huskies. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Huskies this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 45-34 back in January.
Despite the defeat, Vestaburg saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Lily Johnston posted 16 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals. What's more, Johnston also posted a 67% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest she's achieved since back in December of 2023. Jessica Stouten was another key player, putting up three points and seven boards.
Vestaburg's loss dropped their record down to 5-13. As for Breckenridge, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-6.
Looking ahead, Vestaburg won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Sacred Heart Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Sacred Heart Academy will roll in looking for their 14th straight win, something Vestaburg surely won't give up without a fight. As for Breckenridge, they will head out to square off against Merrill at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
