Baseball Recap: Jefferson Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Win

Jefferson lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Martinsburg, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Tuesday's matchup. The Cougars blew past the Bulldogs 9-1 on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won eight games by six runs or more so far this season.

Jefferson let Nayan Dominguez and Cole Smith run wild. Dominguez scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances, while Smith went 2-for-5 with one triple and two RBI. Those two RBI gave Smith a new career-high. Sam Hefner was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-5.

The win was the fourth in a row for Jefferson, bringing their record up to 12-1. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Martinsburg, the defeat snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 6-4 record.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Jefferson will host Hampshire at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Martinsburg, they will square off against Spring Mills at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
