Basketball Recap: Charleston Math & Science Takes a Loss

Charleston Math & Science lost against Cross back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Charleston Math & Science Riptide had to suffer through a 39-12 loss at the hands of the Cross Trojans. The Riptide's defeat continues a trend for the team, making it four in a row.

Charleston Math & Science's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cynay Taylor, who posted six points and seven rebounds. That was a full 50% of Charleston Math & Science's points, marking the third time in a row she's scored more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ellis Britt, who put up six blocks.

Lauren Middleton had a dynamite game for Cross, putting up 14 points and six steals. With that strong performance, Middleton is now averaging an impressive 2.2 steals per game. Kierra Wright was another key player, dropping a double-double on ten points and 14 boards.

Charleston Math & Science's defeat dropped their record down to 1-9. As for Cross, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a massive bump to their 3-10 record this season.

When Charleston Math & Science and Cross next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Charleston Math & Science will challenge Military Magnet Academy and their 11-game winning streak at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Similarly, Cross will try to stop Scott's Branch's three-game winning streak when the meet at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
