Softball Recap: Mountain View Triumphs

Mountain View proved they can win big two weeks ago (they won by seven) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They won by a run and slipped past the Los Gatos Wildcats 1-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Spartans have posted against the Wildcats since April 23, 2019.

Not much got past Allison Marcelino, who gave up just three hits and racked up 15 Ks to keep Los Gatos off the board. Marcelino has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.

Mountain View has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Los Gatos, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 9-6-1.

Looking ahead, Mountain View will take on Everett Alvarez at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Los Gatos, they will face off against Westmont at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
