The Ravenscroft Ravens will challenge the Cary Academy Chargers at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
Ravenscroft is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 16 runs on Tuesday, they were much more limited against Wake County HomeSchool on Thursday. They lost 7-1 to the Warriors. The Ravens haven't had much luck with the Warriors recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.
Cary Academy not only won last Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since March 15, 2024. Everything went their way against Durham Academy as they made off with a 12-1 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Chargers.
Oliver Swartz made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in February. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.
In other batting news, Everett Cagle was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base. Another player making a difference was Andrew Wessels, who scored a run while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.
Cary Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .645. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Ravenscroft's defeat dropped their record down to 5-7. As for Cary Academy, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Ravenscroft has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Cary Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Ravenscroft was able to grind out a solid victory over Cary Academy in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 9-4. Do the Ravens have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Chargers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
