Softball Game Preview: Bradshaw Mountain Bears vs. Flagstaff Eagles

For the second straight game, Bradshaw Mountain will face off against Flagstaff. The Bears will host the Eagles at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. Bradshaw Mountain is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.

The home team had won the previous seven meetings between Bradshaw Mountain and Flagstaff, and Flagstaff kept the tradition alive. The Bears lost 9-0 to the Eagles on Tuesday.

For Flagstaff's part, not much got past Cailee Culwell, who gave up just four hits and racked up eight Ks to keep Bradshaw Mountain off the board. Culwell has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Flagstaff let Hallie Watkins and Sophia Garcia run wild. Watkins got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and two RBI, while Garcia went 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs. That home run marked the first that Watkins launched this season. Another player making a difference was Mia Garcia, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.

The win (which was Flagstaff's fifth in a row) raised their record to 9-6-1. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Bradshaw Mountain, their loss dropped their record down to 6-4.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Bradshaw Mountain hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like Flagstaff struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
