Basketball Recap: Monticello's Loss Ends Four-Game Winning Streak at Home

Monticello has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 60-56 heartbreaker at the hands of the Dove Creek Bulldogs. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Buckaroo came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 100th in Utah, while the Bulldogs are ranked 221st in Colorado).

Dove Creek got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Liam Hassell out in front who shot 6-for-10 from downtown and almost dropped a double-double on 23 points and nine boards. Those 23 points gave Hassell a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Trevan Ivie, who went 7 of 10 en route to 17 points.

Monticello's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-5. As for Dove Creek, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Monticello will face off against Whitehorse at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Monticello's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five matchups. As for Dove Creek, they will head out on the road to square off against Dolores at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
