Basketball Recap: Manning Takes a Loss

Manning was the 54-47 winner over Marion when they last played one another back in December of 2018, but their luck changed this time around. The Manning Monarchs took a 51-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Marion Swamp Foxes on Tuesday.

Despite the loss, Manning saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Ameerah Conyers almost dropped a triple-double on 17 points, 23 boards, and nine blocks. Those nine blocks set a new season-high mark for Conyers.

Even though they lost, Manning smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in seven consecutive games.

Marion was led to victory by Jaeda Davis and Maliyah Williams. Davis went 5 of 11 on her way to 25 points, while Williams posted 15 points. That makes it five consecutive games in which Davis has scored at least a third of Marion's points.

Manning has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season. As for Marion, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-6.

Manning will square off against Lake City at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Lake City will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Manning surely won't give up without a fight. As for Marion, they will face off against East Clarendon at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Marion is facing East Clarendon at the right time seeing as East Clarendon is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
