Basketball Game Preview: Southern Maryland Christian Academy Mustangs vs. Takoma Academy Tigers

Southern Maryland Christian Academy hasn't had much luck against Takoma Academy recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Southern Maryland Christian Academy Mustangs will venture away from home to challenge the Takoma Academy Tigers at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Last Tuesday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Southern Maryland Christian Academy beat King's Christian Academy 79-73.

Southern Maryland Christian Academy can attribute much of their success to Johnie Griffin Lll, who almost dropped a double-double on 21 points and nine boards, and Aaron McGlone, who almost dropped a double-double on 22 points and nine rebounds. Those nine boards gave McGlone a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Semaj Carter, who posted 14 points and five rebounds.

Southern Maryland Christian Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in three consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Takoma Academy entered their tilt with Parkside on Wednesday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They came out on top against the Eagles by a score of 72-61. The win was all the more spectacular given the Tigers' disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 96th in Maryland, while the Eagles are ranked 13th in District of Columbia).

Takoma Academy is also on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-12 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.2 points per game. As for Southern Maryland Christian Academy, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 15-7.

Southern Maryland Christian Academy suffered a grim 63-40 defeat to Takoma Academy when the teams last played last Thursday. Can Southern Maryland Christian Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
