Softball Game Preview: Erwin Warriors vs. Tuscola Mountaineers

Erwin is 2-7 against Tuscola since March of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Warriors will host the Mountaineers at 5:00 p.m. Erwin is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.

Erwin will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Friday, then bounced right back against Asheville on Tuesday. The Warriors put the hurt on the Cougars with a sharp 18-2 victory. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by eight runs or more this season.

Erwin got a massive performance out of Myya Phelan, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave Phelan a new career-high. Jessica Varillas was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Phelan wasn't the only one working in the home run department: Erwin lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. The Warriors are a perfect 4-0 when they post two or more home runs.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Tuscola's offense. They lost 17-0 to Enka on Thursday. The Mountaineers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Erwin's win bumped their record up to 7-5. As for Tuscola, they now have a losing record of 6-7.
