Noblesville's tournament run continued when they took on Huntington North on Saturday. Noblesville greeted the New Year with with a 58-42 victory over Huntington North. Given the Millers' advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked sixth, while the Vikings are ranked 102nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meredith Tippner was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 24 points and 11 boards. That makes it five consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Noblesville's points. Kate Rollins was another key player, going 5 of 11 on her way to 19 points and three steals.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cathedral). Couldn't have asked for a better way to wrap up 2024 than the 65-34 stomp they got against Northeastern. The Fighting Irish have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matchups by 20 points or more this season.
Cathedral found their leader in freshman Caroline Wiggins, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Wiggins has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Tianna Guy, who went 6 of 11 on her way to 14 points.
Cathedral was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Northeastern only racked up four assists.
Noblesville has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.2 points per game. As for Cathedral, their win bumped their record up to 9-6.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Noblesville has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 23.9 boards per game. However, it's not like Cathedral struggles in that department as they've been averaging 25.6 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
