Football Recap: Desert Edge Piles Up the Points Against Kellis

Desert Edge had won eight straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they bumped up to 9-0 to make it nine. They claimed a resounding 60-14 win over the Kellis Cougars. The Scorpions' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Desert Edge got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Byron Brandon out in front who rushed for 151 yards and two touchdowns on only 13 carries. With that strong performance, Brandon is now averaging an impressive 101.4 rushing yards per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Blake Roskopf, who threw for 243 yards and five TDs while completing 80% of his passes.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Desert Edge was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 212 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in November of 2024.

Desert Edge didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The team can thank two different players for their defensive prowess: Antonio Para and Kayden Ali, who each picked up one interception apiece. Desert Edge received some extra help from Para, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.

As for Kellis, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8. While losing is never fun, they can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona football rankings (they are ranked 121st, while Desert Edge is ranked fifth).

Although Kellis took the loss, they still got scores from Michael Porter Jr. and Lamin-Jo Conteh.

Desert Edge didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 66-27 win against Millennium on the 31st. As for Kellis, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 69-18 defeat against Verrado on the 31st.
