Baseball Game Preview: New Braunfels Thunder Homeschool vs. Grace Academy

The New Braunfels Thunder Homeschool will venture away from home to challenge Grace Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses for New Braunfels Thunder and five for Grace Academy.

New Braunfels Thunder fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against San Antonio HomeSchool on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Wolverines by a score of 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Homeschool have suffered since March 17th.

Dawson Posey was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Connor Madsen, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Grace Academy came up short against Valor South Austin on Thursday, falling 13-5.

Owen Carpenter made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That triple was his first of the season. Evan Hoyt was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-1.

New Braunfels Thunder's loss dropped their record down to 13-9-1. As for Grace Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-8.

Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. New Braunfels Thunder hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .354. However, it's not like Grace Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .347. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Everything went New Braunfels Thunder's way against Grace Academy when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as New Braunfels Thunder made off with an 11-5 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Homeschool since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
