Basketball Recap: Cordova Blue Devils vs. Dora Bulldogs
The Cordova Blue Devils waltzed into their matchup on Wednesday with four straight wins but they left with five. They snuck past Dora with a 41-37 win. This was payback for Cordova, who suffered a 51-41 loss the last time these two teams met.
Cordova got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Shyla Armstead out in front who scored 11 points along with five rebounds. Shelby Black was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five rebounds.
Dora lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Bella Reese, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 16 rebounds. Reese is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Ja'laya Harris, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.
Cordova's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-6. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.0 points per game. As for Dora, their loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 19-5.
Cordova will head out on the road to square off against the Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Fayette County is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak. As for Dora, they will be playing at home against the Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. West Point presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Bulldogs in Alabama (the Warriors are ranked 22nd, while the Bulldogs are ranked 121st).
