Softball Recap: Santa Fe Trail Has No Trouble Against Perry-Lecompton

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Santa Fe Trail). They were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Perry-Lecompton Kaws on Friday. The Chargers haven't had any issues with the Kaws recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Sydnee Sleichter made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching six innings while giving up just two earned runs off eight hits. What's more, she gave up only one walk, the fewest she's had since back in April of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-5. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (three).

In other batting news, Kendall Baird was excellent, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Trinity Fawl was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

Santa Fe Trail kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits every time they've taken the field this season.

Santa Fe Trail's record is now 3-1. As for Perry-Lecompton, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Looking ahead, Santa Fe Trail will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Prairie View at 4:30 p.m. Santa Fe Trail's pitchers better be ready for this one: Prairie View has averaged an impressive 12.5 runs per game this season. As for Perry-Lecompton, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 10-2 defeat against Lawrence Free State on the 31st.
